I enjoy volunteer work with Habitat for Humanity, being an amateur beekeeper with my son as members of Minnesota Hobby Beekeepers Association, and a long-time blood donor. I am the Crystal City Council Liaison to the Crystal Park & Rec Commission. Political precinct chair for DFL SD45.
What I love about Habitat for Humanity is the diverse ways they reach out to communities in need, giving back to the community, empowering people to help themselves, and others. While my main contribution has been on the home building side, they also provide disaster relief, financial education, neighborhood revitalization, and market based housing solutions for people who need a safe place to live. Bees - 80% of the food grown for human consumption is pollinated by bees. On an annual basis there is approximately a 50% collapse in every bee colony in existence due to the use of pesticides, herbicides and the increased infestations of GMO resistant strains of disease and parasites that attack the honey bee. This is what propelled my son and I to be more proactive in protecting these essential pollinators. If not us, who? If not now, when?
