I support increasing the minimum wage to $15.00/hour. So, Who would benefit? "..More than half of the 41 million workers who would benefit by an increase are age 25-54, and 56 percent are women. 16.1 percent of those who would benefit from an increase in the minimum wage are age 55 or older. Although the majority of workers who would benefit from increasing the minimum wage are caucasian, 40 percent of all African Americans would receive higher pay, while 34 percent of all Latinos would benefit.."
I think the community in Crystal is underserved by public transportation and that light rail will improve the livability for residents of our town. According to the Star Tribune the most in-demand communities were first-ring suburbs dominated by the most affordable houses near key commuter routes, and within walking distance to shops and restaurants. Increased home value is a bonus all around.
I am opposed to raising property taxes for street repair and street reconstruction if the current process continues to assess homeowners for that street repair/reconstruction as well. In my view, that is nothing more than charging the homeowner twice for something they've already paid for.
Every year the city of Crystal receives $500,000.00 in MSA money. MSA money is a portion of the tax that you pay every time you put gas in your vehicle. Currently this money is added to the 'general fund'. However, I believe this money should be dedicated to all ongoing street repair and street reconstruction easing the burden of tax increases and assessments for the residents of Crystal. According to League of MN Cities "..For every dollar spent on maintenance, a road authority saves $7.00 on repairs but this maintenance requires a reliable, dedicated funding source, other than the current volatile tax system."
I believe clean water is the basis for a healthy community. Currently, Bassett Creek is one of 39 water passages to be above the EPA limits of chloride in our state. The source of chloride is mainly road salt and water softeners. I am a proponent of cutting Crystal's salt use by 50% which will aid in the reduction of chloride found in our water. Learn what you can do to help keep our water safe and clean.
According to Area Vibes, the overall crime rate in Crystal is 9% lower than the average of crimes committed in Minnesota. It is also 23% lower than the national average. When it comes to violent crimes, Crystal shows a crime rate that is 46% lower than the Minnesota average. The crime rate is also 66% lower than the national average. When it comes to property crimes, Crystal is shown to be 4% lower than the Minnesota average and 17% lower than the national average. I support our police force and our fire departments in the important work they do in keeping our community in Crystal safe.
